About Rob, our Head Brewer
An art major in college, a process/ISO guy in his day job for years, Rob sees beauty in discipline. He’s developed his craft over the course of 15 years with friends in Michigan and Indiana. He loves Porters. He loves experimenting with herbs, spices and other flavors. He doesn’t like overt flavors and styles. He likes well orchestrated subtlety. And he loves a good beer/food pairing. Rob’s been perfecting his 30+ recipes, faithful mutt Jagr by his side, and taking notes. His mission: quality, consistency, tradition with a twist…something you look forward to every time you reach for a new Flat12.

Classic 12s
Walkabout Pale Ale
A single hop pale ale featuring Galaxy hops from Australia.
Pours a nice orange/copper color. Moderate malt. The passionfruit aroma and flavor of this brew quickly made it a fan favorite.
Lacto-Matic Milk Stout
Malty and rich.
-Hints of chocolate and the nice roasty finish of coffee.
-Milk-sugar sweetness gives body and a full mouthfeel.
Half Cycle IPA
The Half Cycle is so named due to its marriage of single and double IPA characteristics. In baseball parlance, a single and double is half of “the cycle”, and this IPA is a heavy hitter. It’s a single IPA, hopped like a double, with an over-the-top hop character that’s a bit spicy, citrusy, piney, you make the call. Light in color, but not on flavor, Half Cycle is dry hopped with a pound of high alpha American hops in every barrel.
Upside Down Blonde
Don’t let the light color fool you, this beer has complex flavor. The “Upside Down Blonde” is a hybrid style pilsner/wheat-based beer that delivers a full body, and slight citrus notes and aroma from traditional Noble hops. Balanced and easy to drink, this Upside Down Blonde will be the most level headed decision that you make all day.
F12 Amber Ale
Hoppier than its English cousins this American amber ale will have you saying “Jolly good show” when the maltiness rolls across the palate and locks fingers with the spicy hop finish. Hopped to the top end of the style, Flat12’s amber ale maintains its composed American character throughout.
Pogue’s Run Porter
The Flat12 Porter is inspired by the robust porters favored by the Industrial-age working men of Europe. We chose to emphasize balance from a combination of dark grains including brown malt, which was the primary roasted grain of the time. This Flat12 creation is smooth and balanced with slight roast and chocolate notes, yet it’s not heavy, just like a good porter should be.
Seasonal and Specialty
Liquid Fiction – Batch #112
A session IPA, dry-hopped with American and New Zealand hops. This bit of easy drinking comes in at only 4.3% ABV.
Hop b’ Bomb
A refreshing wheat beer with the enchanting addition of Citra hops. A specialty small batch.
Cross Rabbit Milk Stout
Cross Rabbit beer was lovingly brewed with a combination of Belgian Yeast and a holiday collection Peeps marshmallow treat sugar bombs, Cadbury creme eggs, malted milk eggs, dark chocolate Easter bunnies, and black jelly beans. No green plastic grass.
Tina
A Belgian Porter, Tina is a hybrid of Belgian dark strong and English porter, brewed with dark Belgian candy sugar and a unique yeast strain. Coffee, roast, chocolate-covered cherries, and dark fruits are rounded out with a funky Belgian nose.
12 Penny Scottish Ale
A Scottish export ale collaboration with Great Fermentations. This cold-conditioned ale puts a light hop on to balance the malt. Add in a nice, crisp finish and you’ve got a sessionable beer perfect to celebrate Spring, the end of the workday, good friends (consulting 1001 Things to be Happy About)*, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, puppies, sand dollars…
*Post written from Mom’s house, borrowing from the lavatory-library.
Cafe du Cycle – Chicory IPA
If you’ve had a chance to sit down and sample a coffee at Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, you may be familiar with Chicory. You’re probably not familiar with the Chicory IPA. The marriage of Acadian coffee (from BJava) and big American hops. No time like the present – FLAT TUESDAY at Flat 12. *Chicory is the root of the endive plant. The root of the plant is roasted and ground. It is added to the coffee to soften the bitter edge of the dark roasted coffee. It adds an almost chocolate flavor to the Cafe Au Lait served at Cafe Du Monde. *(CdM)
Oyster Stout
A Stout brewed in the tradition of our brethren in Ireland, a nod to a bygone era. Made with real oysters from Joe’s Butcher Shop and Fish in Carmel, Indian and a fair amount of malted Rye, this light, dry and zesty stout finishes on a mineral note with a hint of fresh sea spray. Anyone who has had gulf oysters with a beer can agree that this one would be perfect for a kick starter to a night of Mardi Gras shenanigans in NOLA. ***WARNING*** This beer was produced with real shellfish, do not consume if you have allergies.
Cuttlefish Cuvee
A blend of four different treatments of Walkabout Pale Ale, the Flat 12 pale featuring Australia’s galaxy hop. Walkabout variations featuring Indiana-grown passion fruit from Fruit Loop Acres and wine barrel aging in barrels from Easley Winery blend with our standard Walkabout brew and a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel version to create this multi-tentacled creature.
BBD68
BBD 68, an American Stout brewed with Rye Malt. This seasonal brew, a 6.8% ABV Rye Stout is “chewy and big”. You’re gonna like the way you look holding a BBD 68.
Super Bravo Forty Six
A sessionable Extra Pale Ale, featuring Super Galena hops and Bravo hops. It comes in at 46 IBU. The working name for this seasonal brew is Super Bravo Forty Six. Or SB46, for short.
Winter Cycle Double IPA
A Double IPA based on the Flat 12 Half Cycle IPA, Winter Cycle is a big hop bomb of an IPA featuring 8 different hops, from 3 continents. Juniper berries add a subtle winter kick. Big hop, sneaky big ABV – it’s like Half Cycle’s pissed off viking cousin.
Half Cycle Reserve
Barrel-aged Half Cycle IPA. Aged in a rye whiskey barrel and blended with fresh Half Cycle to bring out the big hop aroma. Big oak notes, some coconut and a bit of rye spice, plus the big hoppy monster that is Half Cycle.
Moustache Ride Red (Bourbon Barrel Vanilla Amber)
A rich American amber with hints of roasted malt and very moderate hop bitterness,
aged in a bourbon barrel with real vanilla beans.Aroma is dominated by vanilla and bourbon, hints of caramel, grain, and chocolate. Flavor is smooth and rich – cream soda, with a slight alcohol kick.
Wanamaker Wet Hop Ale
An amber, wet-hop ale featuring Indiana-grown Centennial, Chinook and Cascade hops. Our good friend Neal Danison contributed hops from his Wanamaker, Indiana property. And Flat12 brewer Sean Lewis contributed some Porter, Indiana-grown hops. Of course, we love porter/Porter, but thought “Wanamaker” had a nice ring to it.
Cow Tipper Bourbon-Barrel Milk Stout
Applewood Wit
A traditional Belgian-style Wit, fermented with Belgian-style yeast strains and aged on Applewood. This seasonal take on Wit adds just a little heft to a beer that’s light and tart with the spice and zest of coriander and orange peel.
Altbier
A German style ale, cold conditioned for a full bodied flavor. Clean and crisp with full mouth-feel and moderate bitterness. Small batch, in-house debut in the Fall of 2011(9/30, 5pm). Come check it out!

-Loaded with 5 different American hops, Nunmoere is a complex blend of roasted malts and fragrant hops.
Tangerine Porter
THE BLACK, WHITE BEER!
-Coriander, tangerine and orange peel, like a Wit.
-Chocolate and citrus come together in this refreshing Summertime Porter.

Grandmas Glazed Ham
For Easter, we throw in the garnish on our Holiday Glazed Ham Porter recipe. Flavors of Pineapple and Maraschino cherry produce a sweet and smooth finish. Mmmmm, Glazed Ham. It conjures up memories doesn’t it, or perhaps strange food fetishes? No matter, from this day forward it should conjure up a taste memory of one helluva seasonal robust porter from Flat12. Our Glazed Ham Porter balances the spices of a favorite holiday platter and the deep roasted malt of the finest porter. Next Christmas, volunteer to bring the Glazed Ham…in a glass, everyone will thank you for their favorite gift of the season.

Flat Jack Pumpkin Ale
When Fall rolls around, so does Jack. Provided he stays away from marauding trick-or-treaters, this bright orange gourd-like squash from the genus curcubita (Thanks Wikipedia!) finds his way into the mash of this Flat12 seasonal pale ale. A special blend of Indian(a) spices and pumpkin shine through just enough to complement this slightly sweet and malty tribute to the season of hayrides and bonfires. Flat out fantastic.
Puppet Show Pale
A classic American-style pale ale, Flat12 Puppet Show Pale has a beautiful, copper color and a big aroma from generous additions of hops. This beer is assertive, but not overbearing despite being hopped at the top end of the style. Enjoy a Puppet Show, or whatever you are doing, but keep one hand free to hold your glass.
Grain Wave – American Wit
Flat12 American Wit is quintessentially an American version of a traditional Belgian-style Wit beer. It’s a summer wheat beer that’s light and tart with the spice and zest of coriander and orange peel – a great warm weather thirst quencher.
