East Nashville Beer Festival

March 27, 2012 in Events by word317

Matt Leff is a fan of a challenge. After spending time in Portland and Atlanta, he was also a fan of great craft beer. So when he moved to Nashville and discovered there was one large beer festival (and yet such a larger universe of beer out there), he knew his next challenge: the East Nashville Beer Festival. In only his second year, it looks like he’s established a winner. This year’s tickets sold out in under an hour. (Leff intentionally keeps the festival at a scale that will allow everyone to enjoy the day). The beer list looks exciting and the festival has expanded to a week full of activities.

When he approached Flat 12, told us the story of how he developed the festival out of a sincere desire to make something great happen in his neighborhood, we were on board. All the buzz points to an exciting weekend. The brewers will jet (packed tightly in a van or maybe Josh’s Cube) down there on Friday. They’re really looking forward to it. If you’re attending, come by and say ‘hi’ to the guys.

Television Appearance

March 5, 2012 in Opinions and musings by word317

Flat 12 makes a television appearance.

Andi Hauser and Tracy Forner, the fine hosts of Indy Style on WISH TV 8, welcomed Indy-area newcomer BOOM Bozz Pizza and Taphouse to their kitchen set last week. Owner Tony Palombino whipped up some outstanding-looking pies in this segment that gives you ample time to see the pizza put together in its entirety. Flat 12 Bierwerks gets a little love from Tony and the hosts, too. For a little ‘how its done,’ or if you’re looking to kickstart your appetite, watch it here.

BOOM Bozz features an amber and blonde from Flat 12, plus frequent specialty brews. Locally, you can find them at 2430 E. 146th.

From the IndyStyle post:

Tony Palombino is the owner to BoomBozz Pizza and Taphouse. Tony whips up his famous Carnitas Libre pizza. He takes slow simmered carniteas with creamy ranchero sauce, caramelized peppers & onions, roma tomatoes, fresh cilantro. mozzarella and asigo cheese…you can get what happens from there.

BoomBoss is recognized by the Food Network Magazine, BoomBozz Pizza has been awarded the Best Gourmet Pizza, Best International Pizza and the Best Vegetarian Pizza.

Navigator: Getting your Super self to the brewery (A visitor’s guide)

January 25, 2012 in Uncategorized by word317

Here’s the scoop. Just a few blocks east of the Massachusetts Avenue cultural district and Lockerbie Square is the Holy Cross neighborhood. There you will find our brewery, Flat 12 Bierwerks, and our taproom. Our brewery is one year old, yet the beer has found its way onto 300+ draft taps in that short time with a strong line-up of house beers and specialties.

On foot, we’re just a few minutes walk from Mass Avenue. Walking east on Michigan, Vermont or New York gets you there. If you’ve hailed a shuttle, cab or friendly ride, direct them east on New York. (1 mile from Meridian St.) Google maps.

Directly across the street from the brewery is Smoking Goose Dorman Street Meatery. This fine butcher not only supplies handcrafted meats to some of the best hotels, restaurants and retail outlets in the midwest, they also provide their tasty protein treats to patrons of our taproom. It’s a match made in heaven.

A few shots from the neighborhood:
